RBI Grade B Salary and Eligibility: Pay Scale, Age, and Qualification
RBI Grade B is one of the most sought-after banking exams in India, largely because of the pay and the seniority it confers early in a career. Here's what the eligibility and compensation structure actually looks like.
Eligibility Criteria
For the General category, the qualification requirement is graduation with 60% marks, or a postgraduate degree with 55% marks. Other categories may have relaxed percentage requirements — check the specific notification for your category's exact figures.
The age limit is 21 to 30 years. General category candidates get 6 attempts at the exam, while candidates from reserved categories face no attempt limit.
Pay Scale
The revised RBI Grade B pay scale is structured as:
₹78,450 – 4,050 (9 increments) – ₹1,14,900 – EB – 4,050 (2 increments) – ₹1,23,000 – 4,650 (4 increments) – ₹1,41,600 (over 16 years of service).
The starting basic monthly pay is ₹78,450.
What You Actually Take Home
Basic pay is only part of the picture. Once allowances are added in — Grade Allowance, Dearness Allowance, Housing Allowance, CVPS, and special prerequisite allowances — the gross monthly salary can reach approximately ₹1,54,936. Officers not provided official accommodation also receive House Rent Allowance at 15% of basic pay.
Taken together with perks, the annual CTC for an RBI Grade B officer works out to roughly ₹20–24 lakh in metro cities.
Pay scales are periodically revised by RBI. Always confirm current figures and category-wise eligibility percentages against the official RBI recruitment notification before applying.
